A couple weeks ago I woke up and couldn't have felt worse; I showed symptoms of the flu. I was new to the area and didn't know where an urgent care was located in the area. Well I searched for one that would be specific to my needs, which at the time seemed to be somewhat severe. My illness came with no warning so an appointment was out of the question.
Fortunately the urgent care centers in my area accepted walk-ins, but I still needed to find out which one would I should go to. I discovered there are many websites dedicated to local urgent care centers and found a few close to my home. I was lucky to live in a large area and had access to multiple urgent care centers and was able to have a choice, some people aren't so lucky. There are a few questions to ask yourself when deciding where to go.
The location, is it too far, good location? Make sure the location is convenient in case of emergencies. However don't sacrifice location for quality, the better quality is more valuable than a closer office. Check around to see which doctors are where to determine what best suits you. Of course in my case I wasn't able to shop around due to how quick I became ill, that's why it's best to look into this when arriving in a new area. If you have children see which office has the best pediatrician record, or whatever type of specific care you may require. Research the doctor's history, training, etc.
Another important part of finding the correct doctor's office is if their compatible with your insurance company, that's if you have it. If you found an office with a doctor that suits you, be sure to verify if your insurance will be accepted, this will prevent a lot of problems in the future. Also ask around, recommendations from word of mouth can be the most helpful resource when deciding something as important as this.Learn from me, check first to see where you can go in case of an emergency.
Ask yourself these questions: which doctor best fits your needs; is your insurance accepted by that doctor's office; how is the quality of the doctor and their reputation; and lastly, what is the location, is it convenient? Check these questions and find the best urgent care office local to you.
